The rough road to the Dakar

January 10, 2014 La Paz to the desert outside to Uyuni, Bolivia

We managed to get out of La Paz with little trouble.

The road was flat, straight and paved for the first part of the day.

There were a bunch of cool statues in the small town where we had lunch.

Later on in the afternoon Trevor had a rear flat.  Just like Honduars the tire was near the end of its life so we just decided to mount the new rear.  Since we had all the tools out as well Kyle decided to change both of his tires.  Kyle put on Trevors old front tire from Nicuaragua  and the new MT21 rear.

Huge size difference!

While changing the tires countless people were driving by with Dakar stickers on their vehicles.  First time the Dakar is in Bolivia and there seems to be lots of fans headed to Uyuni.

Soon we hit gravel road.... bad gravel road. Washboards and deep sandy spots.  A sign informed us it was 160km to Uyuni.

We camped just out of sight of the road in the desert.

We collected dead brush for a fire.  No trees in sight.
